Check the subfloor first

Laminate needs a clean, dry and reasonably level base. If the floor bounces, dips or holds moisture, the final result will show it.

Do not ignore expansion gaps

Laminate moves. Without expansion gaps, boards can lift, buckle or push against skirting. This is one of the most common DIY mistakes.

Plan the direction and cuts

Dry-plan the first rows, door thresholds and awkward cuts before locking boards together. The job is won before the first full row is finished.

When to get help

Use a professional if there are multiple rooms, doors, uneven floors, rental deadlines or expensive materials you cannot afford to waste.
